Absolutely sickening

Horrific. We seem destined to have to fight this in the courts. I know Chase Strangio and the ACLU will be fighting for us, can you offer any other guidance on where this legal fight will be fought and how we can support the people fighting it?

Adding a couple of notes from a Kentuckian.

Only the lead sponsor spoke for the bill. Everyone else who backed it was silent about why. True in committee and true on the floor. I think I’ve only seen that once before in 30 years following KY bills.

Our constitution requires each legislative chamber to have three “readings” of a bill on separate days before the chamber can vote. They used extra maneuvers to do two readings before the committee met, used the committee to change the wording, and then held the floor vote barely an hour later. I have seen that a few times at the very end of a legislative session, but only once before with many voting days left to go.

Both “only once before” reference are to how our Senate passed SB 150 two weeks ago. That one was a bill regarding “rights in education,” consisting of parents’ rights to have teachers out their kids and teachers’ rights to deadname kids. The bill backers are determined to pass THESE bills with more brutality and less dialogue than any I can remember.

We’re going to fight this every day of the legislative session and fight for the targeted kids long after that, but I need to note we have huge Republican majorities in both chambers, able to override every veto from the Governor. Stopping this bill will be very very hard.

Sending loveand respect and sorrow and solidarity as we keep working.

All they do is think of ways to hurt people. They have nothing else. Not a single idea to improve the lives of anyone in their states.

A government of the people, by the people.

Not if you live in Kentucky, or Tennessee for that matter.

Was this the only bill that was heard without public comment on that day?

Can’t wait until this is challenged on do many levels.

Don’t they know insurance companies like Humana will reduce coverage in their state by not offering insurance leaving thousands without insurance under the Affordable Care Act and doctors will leave if they can be sued for up to 30 years.

What other medical procedures give that kind of “warranty”

Congratulations Kentucky for shooting yourself in the foot.

I honestly do not understand how a politician can override MEDICAL ADVICE ever. How is this not a breach of human rights? This is exactly what they are doing with Women’s rights as well. The most sickening thing is that all this is coming from a highly anti-LGBTQ think-tank who has figured out how to push their insanity on the ENTIRE country.

It’s like we are living in Afghanistan where the Taliban swept in and turned back time 50 years in mere months. It’s the EXACT thing happening here.

Seeing this move forward despite those "trans live matter" chants is absolutely chilling. These Republicans are in their own twisted reality.

I’m so heartbroken. People know these are actual freaking laws, right? And when I share your blog with co-workers why doesn’t anyone give a fucking shit. 💔💔💔💜

Thank you. Thank you for helping me become a better ally. Thank you for showing the depths of heartlessness of some people and the depth of love & courage in others.

I may not be able to do much, but I am willing to put my arms around any trans person and tell them they are loved.

Heartbreaking, living in KY.

I know the governor can't stop it, but Andy Beshear is one of the best things to happen to this state. It's nice to hear about the few Representatives who are as heartbroken as we are. When you said they shared the suicide hotline number, I got full body chills of horror. Nothing drives the impact home quite like that.
